Flightscope Mevo Plus vs SkyTrak Plus

FlightScope Mevo Plus vs SkyTrak Plus: Which is better?

Buying a launch monitor and simulator is not an easy decision. So if you’re trying to settle the Flightscope Mevo Plus vs. Skytrak Plus debate, we’re here to help.

Both launch monitors also double as simulators making them some of the most affordable and efficient devices. While there are cheaper launch monitors, most of them don’t provide golf simulation as well.

We’ll take you through the specifications, data points, software options, and more to figure out which one is the right choice for you.

Comparing Flightscope Mevo Plus vs. Skytrak Plus

Key Takeaways

  • FlightScope Mevo Plus is a big upgrade from the original Mevo launch monitor and now has simulation capabilities.
  • The Flightscope Mevo Plus provides more than 20 data parameters (40 if you buy the pro package), and comes with 10 golf courses and 17 practice ranges.
  • The SkyTrak Plus is an upgraded launch monitor and golf simulator that also provides roughly 20 data points about your swing. It’s also a golf simulator that pairs with top software and enables you to play top ranked golf courses around the world.

Let’s break down some of the most important features of this new launch monitor/simulator to see which one is best for your setup.

FlightScope Mevo Plus

FlightScope is no stranger to the personal launch monitor world thanks to the original Mevo.

This personal launch monitor – which fits in the palm of your hand – revolutionized practice for so many amateur golfers. It was one of the first super affordable monitors that made it easier than ever to learn more about your game.

After the success of the original, then came the Mevo Plus, which has a 2023 edition. This launch monitor is about 4X the price of the original Mevo but has more data than ever. Not to mention it acts as a simulator too which isn’t a function of the original model.

Flightscope Mevo+ Review

Here’s how Flighstcope described their newest model. “The FlightScope Mevo+ is a launch monitor and simulator that uses patented FlightScope Fusion Tracking technology to provide golfers with accurate golf performance data.

Fusion Tracking technology is an innovative combination of 3D Doppler tracking radar technology and synchronized high speed image processing that helps provide users with the most accurate and consistent data for every shot – indoors and outdoors.”

This launch monitor works on Apple or Android devices, is very small/portable (8.2 x 8 x 2.4 inches) and runs on one lithium polymer battery. It works indoors if you have enough space (8 feet behind the ball for the sensor, and 8–13 feet in front of the ball) but you will need to use aluminum stickers. For outdoor use it works without stickers as long as you have eight feet behind you.

Here is what makes this such a great choice for so many golfers.

Launch Monitor (with Fusion Tracking)

The original Mevo is great but the Mevo Plus is more accurate thanks to the new Fusion Tracking in their radar launch monitors. This provides next level accuracy and consistency for full swing and short game shots.

This launch monitor also provides more than 20+ data parameters for both the full swing and short game. The data parameters increase even more with the addition of the pro package (more on that in a second).

Here are some of the metrics provided: ball speed, club head speed, smash factor, carry distance, spin rate, launch angle, shot dispersion, launch direction, angle of attack, and many more. Not to mention the chipping data includes spin loft, roll distance, lateral landing, shot dispersion, and more.

This device also works with putting too and includes data for launch speed, total distance, and ball direction. From tee to green, this device can help you learn a ton more about your game.

Simulation and Games

The biggest difference between the Mevo and Mevo Plus is the simulation and games included.

Not only is this a great launch monitor but a golf simulator as well. The Mevo Plus includes 17 practice ranges and 10 golf courses with no additional licensing fee.

Some of the golf simulation courses include:

  • Aviara
  • Bay Hill
  • The Belfry
  • Stone Canyon

And more.

Not to mention the different driving ranges to make practice more exciting than ever.

The FS skills also let you proactive more efficiently by assessing your game and helping you practice smarter. It lets you create a benchmark, compare your game with others, and customized challenges based on your weaknesses to practice with purpose.

FS Golf (iOs and Android)

The FS golf app powers the launch monitor to help with everything from practice, reading data, and even using it for fitting. It’s very easy to use but unfortunately you must use it to see any data as the device doesn’t include a screen (like other launch monitors).

Another perk with the Flightscope App is the “Multicam” feature. This allows you to automatically record and sync videos from multiple cameras to review on your device (phone or tablet). You can easily combine data and video plus up to four cameras.

If you work with a golf instructor, this is a great feature that allows them to provide a unique experience. Or, if you want to analyze your own golf swing you can draw lines and circles, plus easily send the footage to a coach too. The app is very easy to use and works both for the app store and Google Play.

Mevo Plus Pro Package

For another 20 data parameters (on top of the original 20) opt for the Mevo+ pro package. This software add-on that lets you fully take advantage of the new Fusion Tracking.

As Flightscope said, “FlightScope’s patented Fusion Tracking technology is an innovative combination of 3D Doppler tracking radar and synchronized image processing for unmatched data accuracy. FlightScope recognizes that radar and camera technologies have strengths and weaknesses and therefore we have combined the 2 methods into Fusion Tracking to provide the best of both technologies.”

Other metrics you’ll get include face to target, dynamic loft, vertical descent angle, curve, and much more. This also includes more data for chipping but the same data for putting.

Additionally, the Pro Package includes all metrics with simulated golf, skills challenges, and FS Golf PC 2.0 software.

Skytrak Plus

The original Skytrak launch monitor was a huge hit with golfers but the Skytrak Plus is even better. Skytrak has labeled it the “ultimate golf simulation experience” and has a better camera system for insane accuracy.

As Skytrak said, “The new Doppler Radar System delivers useful club data, including: club head speed, smash factor, club path and face angle. Additionally, applying proprietary machine-learning algorithms to that data delivers precision at a level matched only by the highest end launch monitors on the market.”

SkyTrak Plus Review

The new camera system provides even more reliable ball tracking for better practice sessions. The camera also works better outdoors on the driving range, when hitting from mats. It works great indoors as well.

Like the previous model, it’s small at 7 x 8 x 2.75 inches and weighs three pounds. It also comes with a one-year warranty as well.

Here is what makes this such a great choice for so many golfers.

Launch Monitor (20 Data Parameters)

The Skytrak provides roughly the same data points as the Mevo Plus including club head speed, club path, smash factor, ball speed, face to target, spin loft, lateral landing, and more. There is no “Pro Package” option equivalent so you only get 20 data parameters vs. 40 if you buy the other package with FlightScope.

But as someone who’s used a lot of launch monitors I can say that 20 is more than enough to learn more about your game and practice more efficiently.

Three Plans

One thing that is very different from the Mevo Plus is the three paid plans. While you can add the Pro Package with the Mevo for more data, Skytrak requires an annual fee to take advantage of more driving ranges, skill building challenges, and golf courses.

The basic plan is free and included with the launch monitor which comes with one driving range. The Game Improvement Plan is a little more than $100 per year and comes with a driving range, game improvement features, skill building challenges, and golf simulator integration.

While the Play and Improve is roughly double the price and comes with everything from the Game Improvement Package. Plus, it comes with WGT by TopGolf (for iOS) and TrueGolf E6 Connect (for iOS and PC).

Game Improvement Plan

The Game Improvement Plan is worth the extra money as it comes with tons of features to help improve your practice sessions. Plus, this plan lets you play peer to peer games so you can challenge friends for long drive contests, closest to the pin contests, and more.

Here is a quick recap of some of the best game improvement features:

  • Wedge matrix: Learn how to hit different distance shots with every wedge in the bag to master your short game
  • Shot optimizer: Get help from Skytrak to better understand your data and provide goals for each metric. If you’re new to using launch monitors, this is a big perk.
  • Practice randomizer and skills challenges: Learn to practice with purpose and track every shot you hit. The randomizer makes practice fun by changing targets and clubs for each shot.
  • Bag mapping: Creating a distance chart is one of the most important parts of course management. Otherwise, you’re stuck guessing distances every round. But with the bag mapping feature you can easily dial in your distances with every club in the bag.

Aside from better practice (by yourself or in challenges) the Game Improvement Plan also includes environment controls.

As Rain or Shine Golf said, “Temperature, elevation, and humidity can have huge impacts on your ball flight. With SkyTrak you can adjust your playing conditions to match where you are. Ensuring accurate reads time and time again.”

This is a huge perk that most launch monitors do not offer! It will help give you the most accurate data possible.

Endless Golf Courses

A huge perk with the Skytrak Plus launch monitor is the nearly unlimited golf courses you can play. With the right software (which costs extra) you can play some of the best golf courses in the world. It works with all types of golf simulation software including:

  • Fitness Golf
  • Creative Golf
  • TruGolf E6 Connect
  • The Golf Club 2019
  • WGT (World Golf Tour) by TopGolf

These software options range in price from $200 as a one-time fee up to $1,500 as an annual fee. Each program has slightly different simulator options including 4K graphics, live stat tracking, different courses, and the ability to compete in tournaments.

Trade In Program

As you can tell, it’s easy to spend a few thousand dollars on these launch monitors before any accessories (like a golf mat, net, etc.). But SkyTrak has a trade-in program that lets you trade in your old launch monitor, clubs, and other golf accessories to apply toward your purchase.

They use a 2nd Swing Golf “value guide” to get a pricing quote for your items directly on their website. This is a pretty cool feature that I haven’t seen with a lot of similar companies to help offset some costs associated with a simulator experience. FlightScope lets you trade in your old Mevo but not other equipment.

Flightscope Mevo Plus vs SkyTrak Plus

FlightScope Mevo vs. Skytrak Plus: Who Wins?

As you can see there are pros and cons to both launch monitors/simulators. To compare the two let’s start with something that’s on everyone’s mind – price

These devices aren’t cheap but can make practice more beneficial and work for an indoor simulator. You’ll never have to worry about wondering how to practice or

If you buy the base models of each, the SkyTrak plus is the more expensive option at nearly $1,000 more. But if you buy the Pro Package for an extra 20 data parameters and other features, they’re priced nearly the same.

In terms of size and portability, the Mevo Plus wins at 8.2 x 8 x 2.4 inches and weighs 1.76 ounces. Not to say the Skytrak is bulky by any means at only three pounds, especially when compared to some higher end launch monitors like those from Foresight Sports.

As Rain or Shine Golf said, “At a size that nearly fits in your pocket, the portability of Mevo+ allows golfers to take the technology from their home out to the course, bringing high level performance and training out to the range and the course. It offers a wide-variety of game modes and now in 2023, offers add-ons to further enhance your practice sessions.”

Both launch monitors work indoors and outdoors but the Mevo Plus does require aluminum sticks for indoor use. While the Skytrak works without stickers and arguably even more effective for indoor golf.

If you’re looking for data above all else, it’s a tie as both provide roughly 20 data points. But the Mevo Plus might have the edge as the Pro Package (which costs extra) provides an additional 20 data points.

But if you’re looking for more of a simulator experience, the SkyTrak wins as it pairs with nearly every software available. The Mevo Plus does come with 10 golf courses (at no extra cost) and does have the option for TGC 2019 and TruGolf E6 Connect.

FAQs About Indoor Golf Simulator and Launch Monitors

Do you have more questions about these two launch monitors? If so, keep reading through the most frequently asked questions and answers below.

Why is there a shot delay?

During range practice it’s not uncommon for launch monitors to have a slight shot delay – even Trackman. This can happen for a number of issues but don’t be alarmed as it’s common among a lot of monitors.

Can you use Mevo Plus as a simulator?

Yes, the Mevo Plus has a simulator package included with the software (unlike the original Mevo which is just a launch monitor). The program comes with 10 golf courses and 17 driving ranges – at no extra cost, to give a full simulator experience.

What is the difference between SkyTrak and SkyTrak plus?

The Skytrak Plus is the latest version and a big upgrade from the original Sktrak for a few reasons.

First, it has a better and more reliable camera system thanks to the new dual Doppler radar. The camera system also improved its performance outdoors when practicing on the driving range.

Additionally, there are more golf courses available thanks to the software options.

Does Mevo Plus require a subscription?

No, the Mevo Plus does not require a monthly or annual subscription like other launch monitors. The Skytrak does require an annual subscription for the Game Improvement or the Play and Improve Plan.

How many courses can you play on Mevo Plus?

The Mevo Plus currently has 10 E6 Connect simulated golf courses for both IOS and PC. But you can buy the TGC 2019 and True Golf E6 for even more courses (at an extra cost).

Can you use Mevo Plus in the rain?

According to Mevo, it does work in the rain with the right accessories. “The Mevo Plus camera is weatherproof only when properly mounted on the Boost accessory.

The weatherproof flap on the back protects the ethernet port and USB ports when closed. When used properly with the Boost accessory, the camera has an IPX4 rating for outdoor rain operation.”

Does SkyTrak let you play courses?

Yes, SkyTrak pairs the top golf simulator options (like E6, The Golf Club 2019, and more) to play hundreds of thousands of golf courses. While the subscription fee or annual fee is an extra cost, it has a ton of options to never get bored playing the same golf course.

My Experience

I’ve tested quite a few launch monitors – from $500 to $20,000 professional ones – and both of these are great choices. The Mevo Plus is so small and compact it’s almost impossible to believe that it can provide so much data metrics.

But I don’t like that you have to use stickers to use it indoors and seem to require a little extra space. However, the app is great and makes it easier to learn more about your game with ball data, spin axis, and a lot more.

The one thing that I don’t like about either launch monitor is the lack of data on the screen.

Both devices require you to use an app or software to get the data points. While an alternative like the Voice Caddie SC4 has on screen data. Not to mention plenty of data points, simulator options, and a compact design.

Final Thoughts on SkyTrak vs. Mevo

So, who wins in the Skytrak vs. Mevo debate?

It depends on how much space you have, if you plan to use launch monitor outdoors or primarily for indoor use, budget, and more. But as you can tell, these two launch monitors/simulators are a great choice and think it ultimately depends on your biggest needs.

If you’re someone that wants to make practice more efficient and focus on data above all else, the Mevo Plus is likely the best option. It’s smaller, easy to transport, and has so much data at your fingertips. If you add the pro package you almost get too much data but if used correctly can take your game to new heights.

The Skytrak Plus is better for indoor use and a full simulation experience. It pairs easily with some of the best software options available so you can play nearly an unlimited number of golf courses.
