Golfers are pretty lucky these days. We have never had more technology at our fingertips to improve our game without spending tons of money on lessons.
There are paid and free apps, training aids, and golf gadgets to help all areas of your game. But if you really want the most in depth look at your swing, a personal launch monitor is the best way to go.
Unlike golf GPS units or rangefinders, a launch monitor can you give you more insights than you thought possible. If you are looking for your own personal launch monitor, the Flightscope Mevo might be a good option.
Keep reading for the full Flightscope Mevo review and determine if it is the missing tool in helping you shoot lower scores.
What is the FlightScope Mevo
The FlightScope Mevo is a 3D Doppler Radar-based launch monitor that can help you improve your golf game. The small, handheld device can be used indoors and outdoors.
While the price does fluctuate, it is fairly affordable and has a ton of great features. It measures things like ball speed, carry distance, club head speed, smash factor, spin rate, and more.
Before diving into the review, it’s important to understand how this launch monitor works. At an outdoor or indoor range, place the device 4-7 feet behind the golf ball on the ground. According to their website, wedges should be around 4 feet and driver around 7 feet behind the ball.
If you’re indoors, use a metallic sticker that is provided to put on the golf ball. This will help the Mevo device accurately measure the ball spin. Unfortunately, metallic sharpies cannot be used for indoor use. Then, sync it to the app on your phone or tablet to start analyzing your swing.
When it comes to picking out your own personal golf launch monitor, you want to make sure it’s the right one for your game. Some devices are way too complex for amateur golfers while others don’t provide nearly enough data. But if this device works for the mad scientist, Bryson DeChambeau, you can bet it has plenty of data.
The FlightScope Mevo gives you the ability to improve your performance and practice with purpose. It syncs with both iOS and Android apps so Mevo can capture data and video directly to your smartphone.
Here are some other benefits of this personal launch monitor.
Unlike other training aids, the Mevo is extremely portable is probably smaller than your cell phone. It can easily fit into your pocket or golf bag without taking up tons of room.
This is one of the best features of the Mevo. It allows you to customize the interface and view the data in a way that you want. This includes data blocks for up to 6 data parameters at once, 2D trajectory with data blocks, data table, and video with data overlay.
Another huge perk of the Mevo is that it easily lets you measure performance over time. Your videos and data are stored automatically so you can easily review them on your own or with a coach.
The Mevo allows you to practice without interruption using the Mevo app on your phone or tablet. You can automatically record, clip, and save each video with data overlay so you can quickly review each swing.
The Mevo has a 2D trajectory and data parameter view to help you dial in your distances and control your trajectories. This graph can help you identify if you’re getting too much spin and work on hitting shots with a more controlled trajectory.
As I mentioned in the intro, golfers today are very spoiled. There are so many great training aids to help improve your game. If you’re not 100% sold on the Flightscope Mevo, make sure to check out these alternatives as well.
In the world of golf tech, few brands are trusted more than Garmin. The Garmin Approach G80 is another launch monitor priced nearly the same. Like the Mevo, it tracks ball speed, clubhead speed, smash factor, estimated distance plus swing tempo.
One perk it has over the Mevo is that you can play a virtual round on over 41,000 preloaded courses! Plus, it is a golf GPS as well so you can use it to find your distances as well.
It also comes with a carry case, cart mount, and portable charger as well. With all the accessories, this is another awesome choice for a personal launch monitor.
Sports Sensors Swing Speed Radar with Tempo Timer
If you’re less concerned about all the swing data and want to focus on finding your tempo or getting a swing speed measurement, the Sports Sensors Swing Speed Radar is an awesome choice. At a fraction of the price of the Mevo, it measures clubhead swing speed and tempo time.
Plus, this device doesn’t require you to actually hit a golf ball so you can use it in the backyard or the office.
For about half the price, the Voice Caddie SC200 is another alternative to the Mevo. It is also a highly rated device that doesn’t provide quite as much data. (Go here to see our full review of the Swing Caddie SC200 & SC300)
The Voice Caddie also tracks stats for each club but doesn’t come with all of the same tracking features. It mainly reads swing speed, ball speed, carry distance and smash factor. So if you are just getting started, this is a more beginner launch monitor.
Flightscope Mevo +
Just released February 2020, the Mevo+ is a massive step-up in technology (at a much higher price point). For more info, head over to our full review of the Mevo+ just recently published.

All it takes is about two hours to reach a full charge. The battery life is up to four hours with a full charge and automatically powers off after 3-5 minutes of no use.
No, the device does not have a built-in camera. Instead, the video is taken with the camera on your mobile device using the Mevo app. The Mevo radar then synchronizes the action video clip and is recorded on your device automatically.
The final product is a great design that includes your video plus an overlay of your captured data.
Yes, now you can use the SelfieGOLF with your Flightscope Mevo for a hands-free, automatic recording experience. This is a simple, yet versatile training system that allows you to capture hands-free video with complete stability from any position or any surface.
All you need to do is clip the device onto any alignment stick or driver and attach it to your favorite golf bag.
Luckily, you don’t need to spend tens of thousands of dollars to land yourself a high-performance launch monitor anymore (sorry Trackman). At this budget, I think the FlightScope Mevo is a great launch monitor to learn a lot more about your game.
While not everything is perfect about it, for the price, it’s tough to beat. Overall, this device can really help you nail in your distance control and measure your carry distances plus spin rates. Not only does it work indoors but it also works on the range outside as well.
If you’re looking to learn more about your game and start shooting lower scores, this device can absolutely help. With its portability and price, we highly recommend it. Also, make sure to save the box as it’s meant to protect it and mount behind the ball. Hopefully, this device will help you learn where to improve and start shooting lower scores consistently!
