TecTecTec ULT-X Rangefinder Review

TecTecTec ULT-X Rangefinder Review

When it comes to all the golf gadgets to improve your game, I’d argue that a rangefinder is the one accessory that every golfer needs. In the past, you could get away with not having one, as a lot of carts had GPS devices installed. But times have changed.

Now, most golfers carry their own golf GPS portable devices or rangefinders. If you don’t carry one, you’re making golf even harder than it is by having to guess your distance or look for sprinkler heads and hope they’re correct. Not only will a rangefinder help you select the right club but it will also help you speed up pace of play (which golf desperately needs).

As you probably know, not all rangefinders are created equal. On our website, we are constantly searching for the newest and best golf accessories and wanted to showcase a new rangefinder that we love in 2020… the TecTecTec ULT-X rangefinder. It is an impressive upgrade from the older, VPRO500 version (which has been a top-selling product for years).

Luckily, TecTecTec made a ton of upgrades to their rangefinder without a huge price tag like some of their competitors. So if you’re looking for a rangefinder that can last for years to come, keep reading for our full review of this brand new device.

TecTecTec ULT- X Rangefinder Review

TecTecTec has become a trusted brand for golfers since unveiling their original rangefinder, the VPR500 a few years ago. As someone who’s played with the older device, I can say it is extremely reliable, durable, and very cost effective.

In 2020, TecTecTec stepped up their game and released the ULT-X, which has even more amazing features. For a small price increase, you get 500+ more yards of distance, slope features, more accuracy, and target locking features as well.

Features of the TecTecTec ULT- X Rangefinder

Here’s what makes the ULT-X rangefinder one of our top choices for your game.

Target Lock Technology

While the VPRO500 had pin-seeker technology, the ULT-X is a step up with “target lock technology.” This will help you lock onto the flag and works extremely well from distances of 150+ yards. Plus, it can go as long as 450 yards and target some hazards up to 1,000 yards!

While I’m not sure we need to know if a water hazard or bunker is 1,000 yards out, you get the point… this rangefinder works from any distance. With its 6X magnification, you get bright, clear images so you’ll never have to worry about locking onto a flag ever again.

This model also has a “pinsensor with vibration” feature so your device sends a little jolt to make sure you’re locked into the correct target. If you play a lot of wooded courses, where trees are frequently behind the greens, this is a great feature as you’ll also hit the flag and not a tree.

Personally, I find the “scan” feature very easy to use. You can easily see other objects and quickly identify the target you are trying to hit.

Extremely Accurate

If you’ve ever used a rangefinder, you know there isn’t much worse than getting an inaccurate reading from your device. Personally, I hate it when I take the club for the distance that my device gave me only to soar the green and ruin the scorecard. But with the ULT-X, you won’t ever have to worry about accuracy ever again.

The TecTecTec ULT-X is extremely accurate using the latest optical technology within .3 yards at distances up to 300 yards! Plus, it’s within .6 yards from distances of 600 yards which is even more impressive.

Slope Feature

While rangefinders make the game easier, having a device that also gives you the slope reading makes it ever easier to score well. While the slope features aren’t allowed in tournaments, they’re great to use for practice rounds to understand how the uphill/downhill slope factors in.

TecTecTec ULT-X Rangefinder with Slope

The ULT-X has an attached faceplate that quickly detaches if you need to remove it for events, making it 100% legal. If you can see yellow on the outside, the slope is on and if it’s black, the slope feature is off. This makes it clear to competitors that your device is USGA approved. Don’t overlook this feature, if you have any future intent of playing competitive golf (whether it be Tournaments or Member-Guests), some events will not allow you to use a rangefinder without the ability to turn off slope.

Easy to Use + Durable

Finally, the TecTecTec ULT-X comes out of the box ready to go. It comes with a CR2 battery so you can install it into your rangefinder and head straight to the course for a round with your buddies.

Plus, it also has a sturdy carrying pouch, strap, cleaning cloth, and a quick-start guide. Not to mention, it has a 24 month warranty and lifetime customer support!

It’s a durable device that is both rainproof and moisture resistant so you can play winter golf without worrying about ruining your rangefinder. It feels very sturdy in your hand. I like the fact that it is just a tad bit larger than some of the other rangefinders we’ve reviewed.

Alternatives to the TecTecTec ULT-X

Bushnell Phantom Golf GPS

If you prefer a golf GPS instead of an actual rangefinder, I’d highly recommend the Bushnell Phantom Golf GPS. For a fraction of the price, you can get an awesome GPS device that attaches to your golf bag and is so small you can carry in your pocket as well.

While it doesn’t offer things like slope or pin-seeker technology, it’s still a great accessory for any golfer. It comes loaded with 36,000 courses in 30 countries, is easy to use, and identifies up to four hazard distances per hole.

But it does require consistent charging and can only play about 36 holes before needing to charge again. Needless to say, it’s still a great discount item for a beginner golfer or someone who can’t use a rangefinder.

TecTecTec VPRO500

While the ULT-X is one of our top rangefinders for serious golfers, don’t forget about the more affordable, previous VPRO500 version as well. This is one of the highest rated devices on Amazon with thousands of happy customers. Plus, they now have an option for a non-slope or slope version as well.

Even though it’s an older model, it still has tons of useful features like pin-seeker technology, continuous scan mode up to 540 yards, and is extremely durable. Not to mention, it comes with a sturdy case and battery as well.

Bushnell Pro XE Golf Laser Rangefinder

If you’re looking for a high-end rangefinder with even more features, the Bushnell Pro XE could be the one for you. It also has slope with elements compensation, 7x magnification, pin seeker with visual JOLT technology, and can turn off slope with the click of a button.

Plus, it also works long range (500+ yards) and has a built-in “BITE” magnetic cart mount so you can easily mount to the front of your golf cart. It also is fully-waterproof (not just water resistant) with its metal housing.

Final Thoughts

While there are no shortage of rangefinders out there, I can say hands down this is one of the best options available. TecTecTec built on their winning formula from the past to make an even better rangefinder for golfers worldwide in 2020. Not only is it wildly accurate but it’s also very affordable and if kept in good condition, can last you for years to come.

TecTecTec has proven themselves to be a great golf brand over the past few years and this product is a continuation of that. If you’re a golf nut who is looking to buy a rangefinder that will grow with your game, this is the one for you. Having slope features and incredible accuracy will help you select the right club more often than not.

For the price, it’s well worth every penny. Hopefully this will help you enjoy the game more and shoot lower scores.
