Callaway Paradym Driver Review

Callaway Paradym Driver Review

Warning… This Callaway Paradym drivers review might lead to buying a new driver. Seriously, these clubs are that good.

As you know, golf is a very challenging sport but a lot of us make it 10X harder by:

  • Playing the wrong driver.
  • Avoiding the driver entirely.
  • Not using the right driver shaft.
  • Not buying drivers with adjustable features to match your swing.

Because if you can’t hit your driver consistently, it’s going to make scoring low really difficult. Luckily, drivers are becoming more and more forgiving plus rewarding mishits a lot better.

The latest drivers from Callaway, the Paradym series, can help fix a lot of issues and help you hit it longer than ever.

Callaway Paradym Drivers Review

Some years golf brands make subtle improvements to previous years golf clubs. For example, this year TaylorMade released the Stealth 2 to improve upon the previous year’s Stealth series. It wasn’t a huge change but enough to make a difference in speed and ball flight.

However, Callaway didn’t take the TaylorMade Stealth 2 approach this year. While they had arguably one of the best (if not the best driver) in 2022, they made a drastic switch this year with the new Paradym series. The driver heads, shafts, technology, and looks changed dramatically making them nothing like the previous model.

So, was it worth the switch? Does Callaway still make a top driver in the game?

Let’s dive in…

Key Takeaways

  • Callaway replaced the Rogue ST Max drivers with Paradym drivers in 2023.
  • Callaway has a huge array of driver shaft options at no extra cost so you can find one that suits your swing.
  • They offer three drivers in the Paradym line (down from four) to match all types of golfers.
  • This new driver line has an updated 360 Carbon Chassis which makes them lighter than previous drivers.

Keep reading to learn why the Callaway Paradym drivers already made the 2023 Golf Digest Gold List. And learn which driver might be the one for your swing based on clubhead speed and handicap.

Updated Design

According to Callaway, “360° Carbon Chassis promotes unprecedented weight redistribution for maximized distance. The Triaxial Carbon crown and Forged Carbon sole is 44% lighter than a titanium chassis. This massive weight savings is repositioned for higher MOI and increased forgiveness.”

Aside from the carbon update the club heads themselves changed too. The previous line of drivers had four driver heads, including two triple diamond offerings. These are the lower spin drivers to help advanced players minimize spin and optimize launch.

But in 2023 they only have one Paradym Triple Diamond driver. We’ll review each of the different heads below but all of them are 45.75 inches (without the ability to get a shorter shaft option).

New A.I. Technology

Callaway has been using A.I. since 2019 when they rolled out their Epic Flash driver line. But this year they used A.I. to also help with the jailbreak frame.

This provides more stability in a horizontal and torsional direction even with faster swing speeds. Overall, it’s 33% lighter than the previous models but even more stable.

Plus, they also used A.I. to update the face of the golf club as well. According to Callaway, “An all-new A.I. Face optimization enhances speed, launch and spin, and now downrange dispersion. This is the world’s most advanced driver face designed by artificial intelligence.”

Adjustable Hosels

Like the previous drivers and most golf brands, each of the three drivers have an adjustable hosel. This allows you to tweak the loft and lie angle so it perfectly matches your swing and desired shot shape.

Now that we’ve covered what they have in common, let’s get into what makes each model different.

Callaway Paradym Driver

The standard Paradym driver is great for mid-handicap golfers with moderate swing speeds. It’ll likely be the most popular as it fits a wide variety of golfers and has tons of shaft options (more on that later). It’s a high launch, mid-spin driver with a neutral flight bias.

But the biggest difference is the adjustable perimeter weighting of this model. The driver has a different shape to make it more forgiving but also a 15 gram sliding weight. This weight can be adjusted to help change the center of gravity for a total of 12-yard shot shape correction.

So if you hit a 10-12 yard average fade that sometimes turns into a slice), this driver can help instantly. Or, if you struggle with a draw that turns into a hook, it can help as well. This driver is available in 9, 10.5, and 12-degree loft options.

Callaway Paradym X Driver

The Paradym X is a bit different in terms of design and forgiveness. Here’s how Callaway described it, “Built for a high launch high MOI, along with a generously stretched profile at address. This model is best suited for golfers seeking extreme forgiveness and a slight draw biased from their driver.”

Not only is this club more forgiving and higher launching but it also will help fight that slice too. Due to the design this club does not offer a sliding weight track like the normal Paradym.

This high launching driver is available in 9, 10.5, and 12-degree loft options. It’s best suited for mid-high handicap golfers with less than 100 mph swing speed.

This club is a great driver for beginners and is very good as a driver to beat a slice.

Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond Driver

The final driver head to choose from is the Paradym Triple Diamond. As I mentioned earlier, the previous Rogue drivers had two triple diamonds but there is only one in this series. My guess is that the two drivers were so similar they didn’t warrant creating a fourth driver head.

But that doesn’t mean they sacrificed in terms of design. The Triple Diamond is the “player’s model” with its low spin, mid-launch characteristics.

It also has a neutral flight bias like the previous models and a slightly smaller head at 450cc. The smaller design makes it more compact and less forgiving but easier to shape shots off the tee. Titleist offers a similar model with their new TSR 4 driver.

While it doesn’t have a sliding weight track like the Paradym, you can easily adjust the weights. Changing the front or back weight will have a direct impact on ball spin and trajectory. This driver is available in 8, 9, or 10.5 degree loft options.

Incredible Stock Shafts

While each driver has its own pros/cons and ideal player profile, what separates them from other brands are the shaft choices. I honestly believe that choosing the right shaft for your driver is nearly as important as the driver head itself.

Unfortunately, a lot of golf brands only offer 1-2 stock shafts. While the aftermarket shafts are $200-$400 more! Needless to say, it’s easy to spend nearly $1,000 on a club which isn’t possible for a lot of golfers.

Callaway Paradym Driver Shaft

But Callaway is not one of those companies. Instead, they offer some of the largest selections of the best golf shafts on the planet. This way you can find the right driver head and shaft combo to help you hit bombs and find more fairways.

Here is an overview of each of the stock shafts to help you better understand their characteristics to fit your swing.

  • Aldila Ascent PL Blue Graphite: This is one of the lightest shafts out there and a great option for senior players or someone with slower swing speeds. At only 40 grams it should be easy to swing faster and gain some extra distance.
  • Mitsubishi Kai’li White (60 or 70 grams): Another low spinning shaft that is made for better players is this option from Mitsubishi. Opt for a 70-gram flex if you have plenty of power but want a little more help keeping it straighter off the tee.
  • Project X HZRDUS Gen 4 Silver: This is a great stock shaft for average swing speed golfers and a lightweight 50 gram design. Available in regular or stiff flex with mid-launch, mid-spin characteristics.
  • Project X HZRDUS Gen 4 Black: This is a stiff and stable shaft that is made for faster swinging players (105 mph or more). It only comes in stiff or x-stiff so make sure you have plenty of speed to use this shaft.

The main upgraded option is the Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 6 shaft. This is a very popular driver shaft among single digit handicaps and PGA Tour pros. It’s a low launch, mid-spin shaft that might be worth the extra money depending on your golf swing. Not cheap but might be worth it depending on your swing speed.

Callaway Paradym Driver – My Personal Notes

I’ll be honest, it was not easy to replace the Callaway Rogue ST Max as it’s truly my favorite driver ever. But after five minutes of the Paradym I was sold. I’m not sure how Callaway does it but my clubhead speed and ball speed went up immediately.

Plus, the updated shaft is low spinning and helped my shot dispersion and ball flight. However, if you aren’t swinging at 107 mph or more, don’t get the X-stiff of the Mitsubishi Kal’li as it’s very stiff. But faster swinging golfers will love the lower trajectory.

The only downside (seriously, the only one) is that there’s no marking on the top of the driver head to align the ball. Most drivers have a logo (like TaylorMade) or an arrow to ensure you’re setting up to the ball in the middle of the face. But otherwise, no complaints as this club is long, has a piercing sound, and extremely forgiving.

Is the Callaway Rogue the most forgiving driver?

The Callaway Rogue ST Max from 2022 were some of the top-rated drivers in the market. But the latest Paradym models seem to be even more forgiving. If you want to save money and still get a forgiving driver, you can always buy the Rogue ST Max as well.

Are Callaway golf clubs any good?

Yes, Callaway has a very strong reputation in the golf equipment market. Their drivers specifically have become very popular in the last few years with pros and amateur golfers alike. The newest Paradym clubs made the Golf Digest Gold List in 2023 too.

What Callaway driver is the most forgiving?

The Paradym X is the most forgiving driver from Callaway. The main difference between it vs. the other two drivers is that the Paradym X promotes a draw ball flight. Plus, it has a stretched profile at address to help make it even more forgiving.

So if you’re the type of golfer that misses a lot of drives right, this driver can help. Or, want one that is super forgiving, this is the best option for you most likely.

What replaced the Callaway Rogue drivers?

The new Paradym drivers in 2023… there are three main models; Paradym, Paradym X, and Paradym Triple Diamond.

Does the new Paradym driver come with a wrench?

Yes, the new Paradym woods come with a wrench to easily adjust the hosel to the correct settings. It also can adjust the sliding weight track to change the CG (aka ball flight) if you buy the Paradym model. Or, you can use the wrench in the Paradym Triple Diamond model to swap out weights as well.

Are there Paradym fairway woods?

Yes, Callaway also updated their fairway wood line to match their new drivers. Just like the drivers there are three fairway woods as well. They also have a Paradym and Paradym X hybrid as well. Sadly, they do not have a “pro” model to match their Triple Diamond drivers and fairway woods.

Final Thoughts on Callaway Drivers

The latest drivers from Callaway are a huge hit with the pros and sure to be the same with amateurs. In fact this driver won 3 of the first 4 events in the 2023 PGA Tour season.

This is a massive “Paradym” shift from the Rogue ST Max but it was worth the overhaul to the look of the driver. These clubs are high launching, very forgiving, and overall great looking drivers.
