Golf Swing Shirt Review – The Easy to Groove a Better Swing

Do you want to swing like Ben Hogan without spending a ton of money on costly golf lessons? If you’re looking for more consistency, I think you’ll love this Golf Swing Shirt review.

Let’s face it, there are a lot of training aids on the market.

Some are incredible and can lead to a more consistent golf swing. While others are a huge waste of money and overpromise while delivering on the results.

However, the Golf Swing Shirt is not one of them. I recently tested it out at the 2024 PGA Show and was very impressed. Today, I’ll explain more about this unique aid and how it can help you stay connected for a more consistent golf swing.

Key Takeaways

  • The Golf Swing Shirt is a training aid that will help your arms stay connected throughout the swing.
  • It’s not a swing trainer like the Lag Shot or Orange Whip, but instead something you wear while you swing the club.
  • It works with all clubs from driver to wedge to help your arms stay connected as you swing.
  • There are four sizes available to fit all types of golfers and fit the same as regular golf shirts.

Swing Shirt Overview

First off, what is the Swing Shirt?

Golf Swing Shirt Review

As described on their website, “The Golf Swing Shirt is an easy to use golf swing trainer that helps you quickly groove a reliable golf swing. Just a few minutes swinging at home or on the driving range and you will hit longer drives and great irons.”

How exactly can the Swing Shirt help you hit longer drives and great irons?

By keeping your upper body connected throughout the swing. The goal is to avoid the chicken wing so you can stop hitting fat and thin shots.

As mentioned on their website, “When you are ‘CONNECTED’ you feel like your entire body is striking the ball instead of trying to perfectly time your swing with your hands and arms and other unnecessary and unreliable body movements.”

I saw this gadget at the 2023 show but didn’t get a chance to try it out. But after learning more about their backstory, I had to give it a chance at the 2024 PGA Show.

Here’s how it all started…

The creator was struggling with his swing and trying to work on his game. But he kept hitting the dreaded shank and was about ready to break a golf club. A frustration that most of us know all too well.

That day, he was wearing an oversized sweater. Being an avid golfer, he knew enough about the game, knew he needed to be more connected. So he adjusted the sweater and put both arms through one sleeve and started hitting golf balls.

The “S” word was gone… He hit 18 pure shots in a row and knew he was on to something.

Over the course of the next few weeks, he tested out different compression shirts and sweaters. Then the Golf Swing Shirt was born. It fits over your golf shirt and makes it easy to stay connected.

He took the design to the PGA Show and got rave reviews, including an endorsement from Padraig Harrington! Now, it’s a staple in the golf world.

Testing the Golf Swing Shirt

After being a golf writer for more than six years, I’ve tested nearly every training aid or gadget out there. Not only because I love testing gear but at the end of the day, I’m a golfer just like you and always looking to improve my game.

Over the years – despite countless lessons and even becoming a plus handicap – I’ve struggled to stay connected. I remember getting a golf lesson from Boyd Summerhays (who coaches Tony Finau) and he referred to this as “alligator arms” as my arms separate at impact. I’ve tried different aids to fix it, like the Tour Striker Smart Ball and the Callaway Swing Easy Trainer Aid, but nothing has worked well.

However, after a few swings at demo day, the Golf Swing Shirt worked wonders. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to swing with and was a big fan of the results.

Even the great Ben Hogan would have likely approved of this gadget. In his book, Five Lessons, he tied his elbows down to stay connected. And this shirt does just that – keeping your arms together and moving around your body perfectly.

Benefits of the Golf Swing Shirt

The Golf Swing Shirt has tons of benefits and why I think it can help so many golfers.

First, it’s easy to use.

I always say that the more complex a swing aid is to use, the less likely you are to actually use it. This is why my garage is filled with clunky golf gadgets that haven’t done a ton for my swing.

Second, it works with any club in your bag. You don’t need to attach it to your shaft like some training aids and work from driver to putter. And it doesn’t just work with a driver, iron, wedge, or putter.

When asked about what clubs Padraidg Harrington uses it with, he said, “All the way through my bag. Can’t fail with connection all the way through, even when it comes to putting and chipping. Connection is always what you need in the game of golf.”

I didn’t get a chance to test it out at the chipping green or putting green at demo day but can  see how beneficial it is for the short game. Specifically with chipping, as it’ll make it easy to get ball first contact.

Third, you can use it indoors with a net or simulator, as well as outdoors at the driving range. Even if you have a long offseason you can make practice swings with it at home or if you have a simulator.

You can also take it to the range (although you might get some strange looks) and use it outdoors as well. Whether you want to start a good practice session with it or even use it before the round to get your swing dialed in.

Finally, it’s small and portable, making it very convenient for consistent use. It easily fits in your golf bag without taking up the entire apparel pocket like so many putting mirrors and other gadgets.

FAQs About the Golf Swing Shirt

Do you have more questions about the Swing Shirt? If so, keep reading through the most frequently asked questions and answers now.

How does sizing work?

These shirts are unisex and based on weight more than size. Here are the sizing options: small (90-150 pounds), medium (150-190 pounds), large (190-230 pounds), and extra large (240-270 pounds).

Does it work for right and left-handed golfers?

Yes! Find the right size for you and it works regardless of which side you stand on the golf ball. It’s also great for beginners, seniors, and teenage golfers.

My Experience

As mentioned above, I had a very positive experience with this training aid.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a little awkward to get into and use in public. But I also felt the same way about the Tour Striker PlaneMate (the newer model is slightly smaller) and ended up loving it too.

Ultimately, you can’t care about the opinion of others on the driving range.

You need to do whatever it takes to retrain your swing and build one that is more consistent and reliable. Yes, you might get some looks, but if it works – who cares!

The benefits are nearly endless with this simple shirt and can make a huge difference in staying connected in your swing.
